I think I have approached Substack in a similar way.

I am not driven by subscription numbers or money. All my newsletters are free. I love the idea of journaling but I probably have two dozen different notebooks I started and stopped. I guess I now hope my letters here will find their way to someone who may enjoy or be moved by them. It gives me an excuse to spend a little more time thinking about recent events in my life, long enough to come up with words I feel captures the moment.

My ego likes posting things on Facebook because I enjoy responses. There I have an audience 😆. Here I can feel like I'm talking to the wind.

I like hearing about what you're up to. I'm not very crafty so I get to be amazed at your creations. I also like knowing this can be a place to be creative without being driven by the numbers.

I'll check out your posts whenever they arrive because it will be when you feel like posting instead of feeling like you have to post.

Oh Marie, I so agree with all you have stated. When I first started posting here my ego was def all about thinking how I could build a readership, but I found I just could not be consistent in posting as every post I felt had to have meaning and say something profound....well that certainly limited my post..LOL. Plus it felt like every subject had been covered already by others who had serious writing talent (I still admire those who do!). I remember back to my original blog and the joy I felt when a friend who was living far away stated that reading my blog was like sitting down to a cup of coffee with me. Now that is what I had wanted, just a simple chat about life. All this hoopla about finding your voice and claiming to be a writer is just not me, not who I am. Anyway not at this time and stage of my life.

I agree with both of you! I am here because I love to write! I admit though at times I do get caught up in the analytics, letting the numbers dictate my success and emotional status. BooHaa to that! What I love the most is having a conversation. An exchange around a topic, an inspiration, a day in the life, grief, an old redwood tree, an eagle. Life expressed with words is poetry to my heart.

And Patricia - thanks for all you shared, it was like having a cup of tea with you. Love your dolls!
